Panel: Multilingualism & Diversity in Media
When: 07.11.2019 15-16.30h
Where: Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, Bibliothek, 2. OG
The media is among the most powerful institutions of a country. Selection and treatment of items and events have a tremendous influence on public opinion. Who are the decision makers in editorial offices? And how will the subject be dealt with, and which language will be used? Whose perspective will prevail? For a democratic participation, diversity and multilingualism in the media are indispensable. In a world where biased and simplistic views are increasing, we need multi-perspective presentations in order to confront ignorance, discrimination and nationalistic tendencies. What could the role of multilingualism and interculturality be in this process? – These are the topics on which our guests from Africa and Europe will be discussing their experiences.
The panel will be held in french.
